Fun, Fitness, and Skills

Let's all get ready to have fun, while developing our fitness, and improving our skills this year in physical education!

A little about me...

My name is Matt Tylk, and I am very excited to be the physical education teacher at Evergreen Elementary School.

I received my B.A. from Augustana College and my teaching degree from North Central College. Teaching is a second career for me and I will forever be grateful that I found such a rewarding career. I coach Soccer and Basketball at Benjamin Middle School. I run a morning fitness club at Evergreen called BOKS and I manage a morning Chess Club at Evergreen. Teaching and coaching is an invaluable experience that allows me to get to know all of the wonderful people who are a part of District 25. This includes students, student/athletes, teachers, parents and staff. I am continually impressed and grateful for the support that I receive from everyone in the District.

When I am not spending time with my students and student/athletes, I enjoy quality time with my family:  My wife (who is also a teacher), my son, (12 years old), and my daughter, (8 years old). Together we enjoy being outside, taking walks, playing games, and visiting with family and friends.

I believe that the physical education classroom should offer all students multiple and continuous opportunities to be actively engaged in activities that are fun, fitness orientated, and skill based.

My ultimate goal is to help and encourage students to become efficient lifelong movers, who understand fitness and work well with others.
