We are blessed to have very talented and dedicated educators who are committed to teaching all students so they are successful. One of our own has received a prestigious award! Please join me in congratulating Matthew Turek, band teacher at Benjamin Middle School, on his selection as the IEA New Teacher of the Year!
Matthew was selected from among more than 135,000 Illinois teachers from more than 850 school districts across the state for this prestigious statewide award celebrating new teachers in their first five years of teaching. He will be honored April 19-21 at the IEA Regional Assembly meeting in Rosemont, and we will celebrate his award on April 14 at our Benjamin Middle School Red, White & Beautiful event. The school board will recognize him at the April 9 meeting, too.
The Bob Haisman New Teacher Award recognizes a new teacher and IEA member who shows outstanding accomplishments including involvement in the local, state, and/or national association, professional achievement, the promotion of public education, and enhancement of the image of “new teachers” in the school and community. The award is named in honor of retired Hinsdale South High School social studies teacher and coach Bob Haisman, who served as IEA president from 1993-1999.
Our band program is thriving because of Matthew’s expertise and enthusiasm. He is a great example of the wonderful teachers here in Benjamin School District 25!
